DISCLAIMER: I don't know what I am doing, have very little experience with marijuana, growing it, using it etc. Follow at your own risk!
I really don't know what I am doing but, as the old saying goes: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I live in one of the most backwoods, barbaric, redneck, conservative states in the US. The laws on the books are such that I could get into a lot of trouble for what I am doing, but I do this not to sell or make a profit, but to bring a little bit more quality of life to my quality of life. If the state/US wants to punish me for that, well that is their issue, not mine. So I forge on and hope that my anonymity will remain anonymous.
Let me be clear: I DO NOT nor WILL I ever benefit monetarily from what I am doing. I am only doing it to help myself out with a few of the more difficult symptoms I have due to some chronic (HAH) conditions that I have and here they are:
1) Degenerative Disc Disease, aka; DDD, aka; Arthritis of the spine. Mine happens to be in the L5-S1 region of my spine and I will tell you until you have pain in this area you have no idea just how everything else in your skeletal structure is connected to this small area.
For those who are interested in such things Here is a link. I injured this area when I was a young girl being thrown by a very rank horse. It has come back to haunt me...
2) Diabetes T2. Now, to be clear, the symptoms from this disease are not my target in implementing a medical regimen with weed, what I am targeting is the nausea that some of the drugs I use to treat my diabetes cause. Metformin is at the top of that list, but I also am on Trulicity which causes me a lot of nausea.
3) I have entered that stage of my life lovingly referred to as "The Change of Life" aka, menopause. Yes, I am an older woman, I won't tell you just how much "older" I am but you get the picture if you know anything about menopause and no, my menopause is not medically induced. It is completely natural and this year I have had the distinct [dis] pleasure of experiencing an uptick in some of the more noteworthy side effects. Those affecting me on a daily and sometimes hourly basis that I would like to control are
a. Hot flashes
b. Insomnia
c. Itchy skin
So there you go, you just learned, in a nutshell, all you ever wanted to know about a middle-aged woman's miserable life lol.
Now to something a little more interesting...
About 4 years ago I was introduced (or I should say reintroduced) to weed. The weed of today is MUCH different than it was back in my early adult years when I experimented with it. I decided to try it again because I had read a very obscure article indicating that blood sugar shows some benefits (as in lowering and stabilizing) when marijuana is used.
My son happened to be living with us at the time (don't fret dear readers, he was and is well into adulthood - look there! Another clue to my age lol) and I knew he "indulged" every now and then. So I asked him to let me try some.
One hit and I swear to god - no lie...I did not know what the fuck hit me. Louis CK describes it perfectly:
Suffice it to say today's weed is exponentially different than what I remember from 35 years ago.
What I found with my first efforts 4 years ago was that my bs numbers were not really helped, but wow did I sleep that night...the best sleep I had in ages!
So started my journey. In the interim, I have learned what works best for me and what it does. In some ways, my expectations have been lowered, but some have been raised and rewarded.
I use weed more for the medicinal benefits, but I would be lying if I said I did not enjoy it on occasion just to have fun. I tend to have extreme short-term memory issues when I am high, so I can be very entertaining when engaging in conversations especially if they have anything to do with my abilities to "hear" sinkholes forming in the ground or snakes running in herds through the mountains in our state. I also enjoy playing ps4 car race games and watching Ghost Adventures or Sharknado. Don't ask.
With street drugs getting more and more dangerous and living in a red state whose legislators believe marijuana is a class 1 drug, I have had to resort to something I never thought I would do...attempt to grow my own. This blog will be in part my journey to do this as well as my quest to find the right strain(s) for me and ultimately begin to enjoy life again without dealing with the side effects of my ongoing medical issues.
Happy weeding compads!
